Education for At-Risk Adolescents
"Real communication happens when people feel safe."
Ken Blanchard, The Heart of a Leader (Honor Books)

Some “At Risk” young people may be just beginning to exhibit questionable behavior or socializing with groups of peers where this behavior is acceptable.

  • Most treatment programs assume full-fledged alcoholism or drug addiction on the part of the participants.
  • Most prevention activities assume little or no serious drinking or drug involvement.

Our experience is that large numbers of adolescents, probably the majority, fall somewhere in between these two situations.

Participants with significant, current or emerging dependency problems will be referred to the teen version of Second Chance’s Drug, & Alcohol Abstinence Support Group or H.E.L.P, Adolescent and Adult Recovery Services pertaining to those in need of more intensive therapy.

The PAT program is offered through Alameda County Behavior Health Care Services at ‘no charge.’

Groups are currently held in Fremont, Newark and Union City locations. Also available in designated schools.

Program members are required to participate in all twelve sessions of the Drug and Alcohol / Life Choices Workshops.

SESSIONS MAY INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  1. Smoking
  2. Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Pregnancy
  3. Marijuana
  4. Teen Suicide and Death/ Grieving
  5. Alcohol Abuse
  6. Self - Who Am I - Relationships
  7. Hallucinogens
  8. After High School
  9. Overview of Drugs
  10. Employment Issues
  11. Ecstasy
  12. Anger management

Eligibility to become Peer Counselor with successful completion.
